Lasers in DentistryLaser dentistry is a technology that helps us treat you with a high degree of precision and accuracy. We first began using a soft tissue laser in our office in 1992 to treat periodontal disease, gum recontouring for cosmetic dentistry and oral surgery. Dr. Swett was a leader in the development of the hard tissue (tooth) laser and began using this technology in 1993. He was one of five dentists nationwide chosen to conduct the FDA (Federal Drug Administration) clinical trials used to test the safety and effectiveness of the technology. The hard tissue (tooth) laser used to remove tooth decay was approved by the FDA and became available for general use in 1997. Laser dentistry is an excellent choice for patients of all ages.
